I am back from California! :D

Of course I realize it may not look like I was gone, because I updated a fic in progress while I was away. But I was, for honest and for true!

We spend a week visiting with the mister's family, who, like us, are A+ at hanging out. So while visiting three different households, we drank a ton of coffee and talked talked talked and lingered over dinners at home and out and ate delicious food and made each other watch television shows we're all respectively hooked on, and took long long meandering walks to see those cool Victorian houses that are everywhere in the San Jose area and to buy lattes at Peet's and browse in used bookstores, and it was glorious.

ALSO, it was gorgeous there -- 70 - 80 degrees!!!! So a lot of the hanging out was done outside, and even mornings when it was like 40-50 before the temperature rose I was muscling my way out into the backyard hunched over a mug of hot coffee because that is sooooo much nicer than it is here back east. We also got to the lovely rocky shore in Monterey County and spent way too long watching grumpy snoozing seals bump themselves further up the beach to avoid the incoming tide.

I also took a yoga class for the first time in forever, which completely gave me the bug for it back. I'm now charting out the classes available at my Y (though not going whole hog for a while, because ow, my body needs to adjust back to it).

We've actually been back for a few days, but since we took a red eye on the return and didn't sleep a wink (how have I lost the ability to sleep on planes? I used to be able to when I was young and not-so-carefree!), we've been zombies for a while. Now that I'm walking without a lurch in my step, I'm catching up on LJ and tumblr and making delicious lentil soups.

Though it's always nice to return home, it's a little hard to come back to winter weather *cries*. The transition is not entirely awful mainly because I'm planning possible fun stuff for my birthday next week, which all seems to center around eating. I KNOW, YOU'RE SHOCKED!

On the list right now: eating a bagel (which I haven't done in a long long time because bagels are awful for me carb-y crack but SO FANTASTIC, AM I RIGHT?) visiting my favorite ice cream place, which will end its winter hiatus to have limited opening hours starting the weekend after my birthday because apparently I'm their favorite; getting cheesy cheesy cheesy Mexican-ish food with chips and salsa and guacamole and SO MANY GINGER-PEACH MARGARITAS, making myself a chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream I have been planning for, well, months, because I'm nutso. I may have to spread all of it out over the course of a week (like that's a bad thing).

How are you all? :*

Your California vacation sounds wonderful. We were having polar opposite holidays in the same neck of the woods. I wish we'd been able to actually get to the coast rather than see it as we drove by (along with the brew pubs we weren't able to drink in and the river beds we weren't able to dip our feet in).

There was hanging out but it was hanging out with panicked juggling and then hanging out with way too many people I hardly see any more because it was a great big frou frou wedding in the wine country. I want a California do over!

Our family "vacations" need to have another name that shows just how restful and relaxing they're not.

Yay to a birthday full of delicious things to eat and drink. Keep us informed!

Yay for great in-laws!!!! And for coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. In fact there is a Peet's decaf K-cup in my kitchen. Must go brew it. Yis.

In conclusion, whyfore do I have no coffee icon?

You must get a coffee icon! *steals your k-cup even though I have no k-cup machine, because Peet's*

My goodness, it is a little tough. The rain, though! Gah, that's terrible about the sinkhole!

So true! Sometimes a family vacation can be so busy/stressful/tumultuous that it makes you need a spa retreat immediately following.
