also, what should I have for lunch?

Just getting back in the groove writing-wise and feeling a little LJ disconnected. So here are some of my disconnected fannish and other thoughts!

  • Star Trek, you guys, oh my god, Star Trek. *____*

  • You'd think that after reading a zillion Kirk/Spock fics and actually saying that chestnut of a fangirl mantra in all sincerity to the mister (you know, the whole "Everything is Kirk/Spock, and nothing hurts," insert your fannish obsession where appropriate, and I seriously meant it so hard when I said it), I would be writing that pairing for my next fic, but. Instead it's Compelled Marriage / Royalty AU (kinda) Chekov/McCoy that slammed into my brain and wouldn't let go. I DON'T KNOW EITHER! But I'm writing the humorous/angsty stag party right now.

  • Brussels Sprouts continue to rule my snacking world. I am having a harder time finding them locally; the other day I swooped in to grab the last two packages from under the nose of a shopper who was dithering around the cruciferous vegetable area. THAT IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU DITHER: NO BRUSSELS SPROUTS! >:D

  • I need lipstick. I need someone to tell me what lipstick looks good on me. I need you to come shopping with me for lipstick. Text me and tell me when you're free, because oh my god, I NEED LIPSTICK.

  • My friend gave me a little collection of glosses for my birthday that looked so purty in the box. With the exception of one, they all look horrible on me. D:

  • I got my eyebrows did yesterday, kind of a last minute thing where I called for an appointment and ended up running to make the next slot they had open, and ended up discovering the lovely woman I go to has been dealing with very similar personal issues this last year. Our fifteen-minute appointment turned into a forty-minute mutual comfort and assurance fest, and I felt kind of wrung out after. But my eyebrows look fabulous.

  • I'm going to see a Synchronized Swimming show this weekend. BOOYAH!

  • I need to make brunch plans with various friends because (a) I have told them I wanted them over for brunch and so need to make good on that and (b) I have so many new brunch type recipes I want to try out on people.  Like, you could make Crème Brûlée Baked French toast just for yourself and your partner, but it is probably not the wisest idea kicking around out there.  Imagine the rest of the weekend you would spend languishing in a carb coma.  Which...does not sound like the most awful thing ever, actually.

  • Also, I got the Smitten Kitchen cookbook yesterday in the mail, and I will be making those whole-lemon lemon bars, like, ASAP.  Anyone else also get their hot little hands on that book?  And have you made anything especially scrumptious from it, because if so, tell me riiiiiight now!

Brussels sprouts! I would not have dithered. I have been eating them roasted with olive oil and kosher salt and they are wonderful. I'll be sad when they leave my market.

Seeing a synchronized swimming show in person sounds like fun and so does having people over for brunch. I haven't done that in years. We've turned into people who don't brunch. That makes me sad.

That lemon bar recipe looks insanely delicious (I looked at the blog).

We're off to yet another obli-cation to California. Last month it was a wedding, this month it's a funeral. Then there are three, count 'em, three college graduations Bam, Bam, Bam. I am never getting a new refrigerator *grouses*

I know, right? I know they're out of season technically already, which is why they're getting more elusive, but gah, I want to eat them always!

So the ones on the site are a different one, an adaptation of the Ina Garten version. But this book version should be delicious. I'll report back once I've made them.

Urk, good luck making it through all of your obligation trips.

Brussels sprouts! Yum! I love them! I'm proud of you for emerging victorious with them!

Lipstick! Are you brand loyal? What are you looking for in a lipstick? My preferred method of buying lipstick is to go into a MAC shop and say to the person working there, "Hook me up!" (Heck, that's true of all types of makeup. I love MAC.) I regularly wear three of their lip colors, and when I popped in in the fall/winter wanting the perfect red for me for a bright red lip that suited my complexion they nailed it yet again.

God, they are my favorite ever, and it's awkward how many times I tell the mister there are some leftover/available if he wants them, and later have to tell him, um, there are no more Brussels sprouts on offer because I have nommed them all up! He, uh, doesn't care? Because he doesn't love vegetables like I do. But I always feel vaguely guilty. But not totally. On account of how I love them so. <3

I have definitely had luck with MAC in the past (I used to wear it for years when I lived in NYC), and will probably stop by there soon. I also have had some good luck with people who work at Sephora helping me find some nice shades in Nars or Laura Mercier. BUT I am encouraged by your beauty tech consult story, and will move my MAC visiting plans from vague to definite!

mr. muse loves them so much he'll eat them burning hot off of the roasting sheet if I don't stand there with tongs in hand to hold him back. I swear he and the museling are going to learn how to do a two-wave attack one of these days, and I'll never get any of them! In fact, mr. muse has been known to complain if I make them for guests because then he has to share with more people. Sigh. I would gladly take your vague guilt and all the sprouts!

I DO THAT TOO, WITH EATING THEM OFF THE ROASTING PAN! Especially the leaf or two that has fallen off in the pan shaking and have gotten all crisp like chips, mmmm! I have on occasion burned myself slightly. Ahem.

Mr. Muse and I should clearly never be in a room where there are roasted brussels sprouts available; it would be a terrible match to gain deliciousness!

Mmm...Brussels sprouts. I ate my package this week but I have a note for two packages for next week. Love them roasted.

Me too! I keep meaning to make different recipes with them, but honestly, roasted the Ina Garten way is just about perfect to me, so I'll probably stick with that for a while.

Oh, those silly people above actually commenting about how good brussels sprouts are when I just came to say that I immediately thought of Sheldon (we've been watching The Big Bang Theory lately) when you mentioned them, and then you went and actually said cruciferous vegetable and I was like, hahaha. I don't know why everything reminds me of TBBT lately. *g*

Lipstick I can do! MAC is one of the best (are you US or UK based?). What formulation are you after? Matte, gloss, satin? What colour? I adore red, Viva Glam from MAC is my signature colour, it's matte, and it lasts for ages.

I remember Viva Glam! I've never worn it, but a friend of mine adored it (and I can imagine it would look lovely on you).

I have NO IDEA what I want right now; I think I need to look at a few magazines and then waltz into a couple of make up stores and have them work their magic on me. For me lipstick is one of those things that I can hear a shade or type recommended, but until it's actually on my lips it's hard to tell how it will work out.

Lemon bars, mmm, I'm hungry now and I ate a cupcake earlier so I may not have more sweets. Boo. :(

Also, brunch. Best meal evah. I hope you make home fries too, or hashbrowns, or anything, because brunch + potatoes = even better than best meal evah. Or frittata. Or poached eggs. God, I should probably stop listing things now, I'm just making things worse.

That would be lovely, because you would be such fun to shop with! *creates a L'Engle style tesseract so you can come shopping with me just the once and then zip back to where you need to be*

Oh, that is sad! But I hope your cupcake was super delicious.

You are so right about the potato element. I could make oven home fries, as a way to do another element that could be sort of hands-off (the only problem with brunch is if you're juggling multiple pan-needing things, I find). Gah, I love poached eggs, but a fritatta would possibly be easier -- but POACHED EGGS! I really love those.

I miss you! *hugs tight* I will pretend we are going to meet up for brunch and then follow that with cupcakes and lipstick shopping. No, wait, lipstick shopping first; all the food will interfere with the whole color appropriateness determination quest! :D

PIZZA! That is an excellent thing, and now I want it too. Only I want a homemade pizza, which it is too late in the evening to request now (the mister typically makes pizza dough round these parts).

I didn't read through all the comments, so pardon me if this is a repeat. GET THEE TO A MAC COUNTER. Ask them to recommend lipsticks. TRY ON A MILLION. Buy one or two. OR SEVEN. LIVE.

(Or alternately, fly out here and I will shop with you. ANYTIME. Man, I wish I had irl friends who liked shopping and/or makeup and/or both shopping and makeup. ALAS I DO NOT RIGHT NOW.)

Haha, it is a repeat, BUT! It is very good advice. And it has been some time since I have thrown myself on the tender mercies of the MAC staff.

Eeeeee, I would love to shop with you for makeup and flirty sandals and organization-y thingies and NOTEBOOKS and doo-dads to put on cupcakes!

Brussel sprouts! Roast them with some garlic or a little sesame oil. Mmmmmmmm

For me right now the fannish phrase is "Everything's Marvel and everything hurts". I working through the pain via fic. There's already 8k plus of post CA:TWS fic written and I know I'm not done.

I am like a Brussels Sprouts purist for some reason: olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, roasted = AWESOME! But your way sounds lovely too!

I dont know from lipsticks, I am just now only beginning to sucumb to warpaint, after my incredible experience of having a professional photograph taken. I should post them, they're so amazing.

but Brussel sprouts YUM. try to find a good frozen brand dont know if Cascadian makes em. they are waaay out of season now.

a friend taught me this option: un-bundle them little cabbages. yes, that's right: peel all those little leaves apart, like, fluff them.
saute in brown butter with pistacheos. try not to drool while cooking.

I have been trying to perfect a pavlova. its getting better.

I grabbed more fresh ones today! :DDDDD

I have had those once, though just with butter, not with the pistachios, which sound super delicious. On the pistachio note, we are going to one of our local creameries for the season's first ice cream, and I am contemplating the pistachio option (as it will be a while before their native farm fresh peach and berry flavors are available).

Pavlova! That sounds super fancy! I hope your quest for the perfect one goes well. <3
