We are all powerless to resist him, just give in. ;)

Hahaha! I am pretty sure I am going to! I have no idea what's normal for cons, but the one I'm looking at that's not for a few months has almost nothing on the schedule right now. But it says on his website that he'll be there...

(I still need to find myself some damn ST icons, and I am SO JEALOUS that you met Leonard Nimoy, *hands*).

This amuses me greatly. I hope you have some Shatner sightings in your future.

I actually kind of started flapping my hands a bit when I thought, "Why the hell not? :DDDDDD"

I love the story of him avoiding cons for so long because he thought they would be horrible, and then finally going and feeling the lerve.

Isn't that hilarious? And now he's all social media with his own subreddit, not to mention of course his twitter & etc. :DDDDDDD

You never went to a Buffy con? 'Cause I remember reading your James Marsters RPS fic after I saw him at a con w/Ghost of the Robot and for some reason I thought you'd been to one of those animals.

Saw your comment above about Leonard Nimoy and happened to notice he'll be at Shore Leave this summer. http://www.shore-leave.com/ I checked that website because that's the one convention one of my friends from college goes to every year. (She has written some SciFi books and she makes costumes for her kids, etc. She's very involved.)

(I just went to her FB so I could double check that I actually have the name of the convention right -- I did -- and happened to see, because I haven't paid attention to FB in a long time, that she met William Shatner last year at Shore Leave. Hmm! Not sure if you can see this, or if you even care, but ... https://www.facebook.com/campchaos/posts/3294628901156 )

Anyway. My original point about Shore Leave was going to be that I could put you in touch with someone who is an old pro if you wanted to go that route. *g*

Okay, so I went to WriterCon once -- so all Buffy fans/writers/readers, and though all of THEM were stars, not an actual celebrity among them (I think! maybe one was in disguise to share their Sunday-the-Vampire/Xander's Dad/Got The Mustard Out Guy sekkrit fanfic). And that's the only Con I've ever been to.

I did see GotR perform, in Long Island, at just a standalone concert (though most of their gigs were at cons, so that's probably part of the assumption there). But it was a very small venue, I saw them all up close and awkward, and I got to see them with dancetomato, which was pretty fab.

You know, I saw that, and he's appearing via Skype at a few cons. Which is cool! People there are still getting to see him live, after a fashion. But I wouldn't be able to shake his hand or see him in-actual-person or, you know, faint dead away from his presence where he might be vaguely alarmed by my antics. D: He's more or less retired now (imagine, in his 80s!) and so the likelihood of ever seeing him in person again -- I pretty much missed the opportunity.

HOWEVER! I will think about whether it makes sense to consider that one, especially because it would be cool to get in touch with a pro at the fan-con going! So thank you very much for the info! *thinks on it*

And darn it, I had an entry open from you to comment, and lost it somewhere, but I saw Grandma's and PIE and *applauds*

All close up and awkward is pretty much GotR in a nutshell.

Welcome to celeb!cons. Total madness, nothing else like them. Go for it!

Wasn't it, though? *sighs* I miss them.

Yes, I am getting more determined about going, yay! Also, your default is strangely appropriate for this. Hit on the head with celebrity craziness!

Ahh, okay, yes, it's coming back to me now, lol!

Oh, man, I didn't look closely enough to notice that it wasn't a live appearance. Sorry.

Haha, yes! I took my mom to Grandma's for her first visit. And of course we couldn't leave without having pie! She agrees we need to go back. *g*

No worries at all! And yay, glad your mom liked that pie! :D

If you want to meet him, be prepared to WAIT IN LINE. He and Nimoy were at DragonCon in 09 when I was there and the line for autographs was over an hour and a half wait.

But meeting celebs is fun (points to icon)! I've done it many times at two cons and really wish I could afford to do it again soon.

Good advice! I will bring comfy shoes and get my wait on!

I honestly have never wanted to meet a celeb at a con before -- this is the first ITHINKIMUSTDOTHIS! impulse in that direction I've ever had. I think it will be cool if only because, come on, WILLIAM SHATNER.

I just broke my celeb con cherry this month, for a Supernatural con.

If it's run by Creation Ent, they do a very nice job, I think. As they love to point out on their website, if you buy a ticket, you have a seat. The SPN one was hella fun. The photo ops, if you buy one, are efficient as all hell, if they use the same photog (and he's great, if they do. Does retakes if you'll look horrible, and still keeps the line moving insanely fast). That said, that means your moment with the star goes by quickly (and if you're tongue-tied, not a worry because again, it's fast). The autograph lines (their weekend packages come with some free ones), are on the other hand very slow. The cheaper your seat, the slower they go. But you get a tich more time with the star. There are other things available to do like meet-and-greets and the like, but they cost more. Buy those ops soon, because they sell fast. (SPN cons started a free for everyone karaoke party, I think because Richard Speight Jr. wanted to do something for those who couldn't afford the extras. So who knows, there could be something like that.)

It is hard to plan, because our con's schedule didn't go up until the day of or the day before. But Creation tends to get a shitload of people, or at least they do with SPN. They have been doing this over 40 years, and I thought they did a very well-run con.

SO GO!!!

It's not run by Creation Ent, sadly! I'll definitely be paying attention to the options and extras. Thanks for the input!

Haha! I don't know, that might be jumping into the deep end going to a con with Shatner as your first! I'm sure those are crazy busy. I did go to one once just because Nimoy was going to be there (and it was supposedly his last live one, he still does skype sessions at cons though). :)
Jun. 1st, 2014 11:20 pm (UTC)
That's pretty awesome that you saw Nimoy at his last in-person appearance!
Jun. 2nd, 2014 12:01 am (UTC)
Yes :) I got to meet Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols. :)
