cats and calls and writing stuff

It's a good thing neither of my current kitties is as smart as our previous kitty, Frankie.  Penny has been trying to sneak in to gnaw at the straw to my iced latte for a few minutes now, but I've been able to stave her off.  Frankie would already have yanked out that straw and run away with it, chirruping, "Brrrmew! Brrrrmew!  Brrrmew!" to declare his victory.  Then I would have found the straw six months later when it rolled out from underneath the refrigerator.

I just got back from trying to see my mum in the hospital (don't worry; it's nothing urgent, and she'll be back to her residence soon), but I never made it there because there was some kind of crazy tie-up on the highway.  It took me ten minutes to get up the entrance ramp, and then twenty minutes to get to the next exit (less than half a mile away).  At that point I got off the highway and turned around, because, you know, traffic jams are good excuses to put off anything you didn't really want to do in the first place.  Anyway, I got home and left a message with the nurse for my mum explaining the road situation.  "So that person coming in for the job interview wasn't lying!" the nurse exclaimed.  "The highway really is backed up!"  Now instead of feeling badly I didn't make it to the visit, I feel all accomplished -- I totally saved some person's not-lying ass today, and maybe helped them land a job!  *pats self on back*

So I'm supposed to be finishing this Leonard McCoy/Pavel Chekov compelled marriage, royalty-sort-of-AU, kinda canon-typical mission fic by the end of this week, according to the very stern talking-to I gave to myself.  I'm so close -- so close!  But I have spent today figuring out character entrances and exits (like, you know, that canon character I mention in chapter 7-ish should probably make an appearance in the prior 49 pages, etc.) and researching ST:TOS minerals for Very Important Reasons.  Honestly, though, this is going to be done soon, if only because I signed up for some Big Bang with an approaching deadline and I have no idea which of my too-many ideas to pick for that story and yeah.  *cringes*

What are we thinking for dinner?  I'm thinking baked lemon cod and roasted asparagus and a big ol' salad, if anyone wants to come over and bring dessert.  I like caramel chocolate-pretzel ice cream, if you needed ideas.

Yay! You're writing TOS! McCoy/Chekov should be a lot of fun.

Okay, so technically I am writing AOS, which probably isn't totally clear in the post because I mention the ST:TOS minerals. But the story is very very very very VERY TOS-infused. Like, I am smooshing together characters who resemble Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin, but I am absolutely writing Leonard McCoy based on DeForest Kelley's portrayal. And it is pretty fun so far, at least to me! :D

Am I like, completely corrupted by Facebookishness? Whenever I read something like your traffic jam story, I am just like, looking for a "like" button. I think I should be able to click a "like" button and then there isn't one, because this isn't facebook, and then I feel vaguely clickless and anxious and unsettled and unliking, woe. :(

I love the idea of your story, though, and can't wait to read it! and wish I could eat dinner with you because like, amazeballs, even though the only dessert I would have to offer is battenburg cake from Tescos (delish, but not up to your standards) .... if I lived nearby, I would totes work harder to be up to standard and have invites and bake for you <3

Heee! I have that effect from FB and from tumblr -- where is my "like" or tiny ♥ button to click?

I have no doubt you would make awesome scrumptious things! *schemes to move you closer to me* :D <3
