One silly thing I really miss about LJ-ing regularly is userpics.  I just changed my default to this umbrella one, and even though plenty of people are not fond of rain, rain would be so lovely and spring-y and NOT SNOW that it looks marvelous to me.

Over on tumblr I'm doing one of those month-of themes: 31 Days of Dinner (or, if like me you would say, but why can't I start from the beginning???: here they are in chronological order).  Stop by if you want to gaze in wonder upon my crappy cell phone pictures and satisfy your curiousity about exactly what we've been eating at night!  They include links to recipes when I remember (if/when they're online, or if indeed I used/adapted a proper recipe), but if you want any guidelines to anything there and I can link you or quickly type something up, hit me.  I've been almost entirely consistent in posting dinners (I only missed Day 1).  Though on what should have been this Saturday night's dinner post, you'll see I said fuck it, and posted photos of these amazing soft-boiled eggs baked inside cheddar chive biscuits that I made for Sunday brunch.  Sooooo good!

My birthday is coming up, which I have sort of been aware of but fully realized this morning.  Whilst doing my freaking annoying daily knee stretches on the floor, I shouted suddenly, "My birthday!" and the mister called from the other room, "Yes, I know, soon!"  My birthday is kind of a Big Deal to me.  I would say, "Isn't everyone's?" but then I know people who prefer not to celebrate their birthdays.  That is totally their choice but kind of sad to me.  I mean, an excuse for celebration and cake?  A way to mark you've made it through another year?  A day upon which you can say, "Hell if I'm doing that, because today's my birthday!"?  Where's the bad?

I think I might have picked the cake I'm going to make for my birthday.  This is also a Big Deal, particularly because I don't eat cake freely nearly as much as I used to.  Last year's cake I planned for pretty much months to find the right components.  This year I've been more cavalier, but the pressure is on now, people!

Hey, I should post links here of fics I've been posting/updating on AO3.  But on the other hand, I don't think I've got many people reading here who dig Star Trek either in its original series or the reboot films.  Eh, I'll try to remember anyway, if only for my weird compulsion for tracking things in various places.

How are you all doing with fannish and rl things and such?  I think of you all often and laugh nostalgically to myself, and slink away from the people in stores gazing at me suspiciously because why is that woman laughing nostalgically at nothing at all?

Our Mountain Laurel is blooming like crazy and it's all kinds of wonderful. Yay Spring! Yay Birthday! Yay Dinner! The soft boiled egg biscuits sound fantastic.

My fannish pursuits were on hold for a week because of all the epic rocking during SXSW here. Got about fifty bands under our belt and now I am sore throated and tired and still have a houseguest to entertain for a couple more days. She's fun but I really, really would like to catch up on fic and then sleep for a week. Soon!

What an excellent reason for fannish pursuits to go on hiatus! So glad you had a good time; hope the recovery time of reading fic and snoozing is wonderful too.

Yay it's you! I am always happy when you pop up. Things are plugging along for me, school, internship etc. The only really exciting thing in my life is that I've KonMari'd everything and now am redecorating my room so that it is a space that brings me joy.

I am into star trek esp the reboot but I am not that into fic anymore (idk why, sometimes i rly miss it). But there is always the possibility I will read it, so I definitely support your impulse to post links to it.

Yay, hi! *hugs* Oh, that sounds lovely, embracing something that will bring order and enjoyment! I keep meaning to get my sister that book. Perhaps I should get it for myself as well, though I am such a clutterbug, it's very very tough to imagine the method taking hold for me.

Hi I miss you.

Hi, dear! I'm sending my rain icon back to you in a spirit of solidarity.

Your dinners look delicious, though I am laughing at the thought of what a similar compilation would look like for me: lots of ham sandwiches, canned soup, curried veggies and rice, bagels. I'm not much of a cook! But I do love looking at the creations of people who are.

Yay, lovers of rain unite! :D That's a lovely one you've got there. *watches rainfall for a few moments*

Well, if you are ever in my New England-y area, you are welcome for dinner at any time! And honestly, to me it's very fun to see whatever people are eating, even if it is sandwiches or stir fries or whatever. I'm one of those people who isn't at all subtle about looking at what everyone else has got in their carts at the grocery store.

I am very much a TOS fan, so I will be happy if you link fic! (I don't read fic as much as I used to, but that's more an issue of not having as much TIME as I used to than a lack of interest.)

Cool! I've written a few TOS ficlets, and some AOS long fics -- one of the AOS ones is very TOS-mission-feel, if that makes sense, though it's McCoy/Chekov, which may not be your bag. Anyway, I'll try to keep up linking, then. No worries if you don't get to them or need to save them for a rainy day. :D

Birthdays are wonderful things and I agree, it's hard to understand people who don't enjoy them! I love the pictures of your dinners -- they look delicious. But then I'm not surprised as I know you're a fabulous cook!

They are so great! And other people's birthdays are terrific, because yay, we get to celebrate having them in our lives!

Thank you so much! <3 I am still determined that brunch will happen one day with you and yours; it'll give me a chance to try out fun recipes on you. :D

Hey, hi!

Yay for birthdays! It always makes me go o_O when people don't celebrate. Like, my family always has a get together, but Pip's family is like, eh, whatever. It's cake (or raspberry pie) and ice cream, people, what's not to like indeed?!!!
Mar. 24th, 2015 10:01 pm (UTC)
Yay, birthdays, yay! RASPBERRY PIE -- your family is so cool! I made a three-berry pie this past summer twice (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries) and it was absolutely worthy of a birthday celebration (though we had it for our anniversary and then just an end-of-summer observance instead). :D
Mar. 24th, 2015 10:08 pm (UTC)
Funny you should mention a mixed berry pie. I always ask for raspberry pie on my birthday because I only get it the one time a year. Last year I'm eating my pie and I'm thinking to myself, man, this has got to be the absolute ~worst raspberry pie my mother has ever made! Then it comes out that she made the three berry instead of raspberry. And didn't mention it. I was like, did you really think I wouldn't notice that it wasn't raspberry?!!! I was mucho disappointed, but at least there was a good explanation for why it didn't taste like raspberry pie. *g*
Mar. 25th, 2015 12:54 am (UTC)
Well, if you ate the mixed berry pie I make, you would slam your fork down on the table and yell, "WHAT IS THIS SLICE OF HEAVEN???" Because it's that good! Ahem. :D
Mar. 27th, 2015 09:59 pm (UTC)
Haha, I'M SURE I WOULD, but you'd probably tell me that you were serving me three berry pie rather than trying to make me think it was raspberry, am I right? *g*
