okay then

Oh, man.  Some days I shouldn't randomly poke around thinking, "Hey, I wonder what Nick Brendon's been up to?"

Sending out best wishes to him, for what it's worth.

Yeah, dude's a fucking mess and it's really sad. He isn't ready to sober up, that's totally obvious. I hope he is soon.

Everything you said, yes.

I'm scared for him.

I fucking loathe Dr. Phil. He's a grandiose, self-serving hypocrite with zero compassion. I wish someone would sue him for malpractice.

I didn't know Nick Brendon was sexually abused. I can completely sympathize with his feelings about Dr. Asshole criticizing his mom. My mom didn't put me in treatment, either - it was 1972! People barely even understood what therapy was. Doesn't make her a terrible mother. I blame the abuser, not my parents.

That was the part that got to me as well. I had no idea about the sexual abuse he'd suffered, and it really sounds like it came out publicly for the first time specifically in the context of Dr. Phil suggesting Nick's mother screwed up. And gah, you're absolutely right, there was nothing like the range of options or just public awareness of therapy for sexually abused kids until way more recently, and the parents are absolutely not the ones at fault.

Wow, that just sucks. Dr. Phil can fuck right off. I really don't like that guy.

Poor Nick - he's really a good guy, I hope he can find a way to sobriety and healing.

Yes, yes -- I know that people often do multiple rounds of rehab before they find their footing, and I am absolutely still hopeful he will get there (and, I hope, soon if possible).

That poor man, my heart just completely goes out to him.

(ok and this is a personal thing, but I'm find more and more sympathy in my heart for people who struggle with addiction because of the way addiction is treated (or not treated) in our country... about a month ago i read this great article about how America's treatment model is all based on AA, and how that model is pretty much flawed)

He's so, so talented, and I hope he's able to get to a stable place.

I've heard about the sexual abuse before his decision to appear on Dr. Phil. I stopped reading about what's going on with him because it just hurts so much. The poor guy, I really wish he gets better soon.

Same -- I generally don't look for things he's been up to because it's painful. But I really still hope things will settle for him, so. Yeah.

Oh man, that poor guy. He is clearly in a terrible space and that is not the time to go on Dr. Phil (I share Lynne's opinion of Dr. Phil). I hope things improve for him, it sounds like he's got more than his share to deal with.

Yeah, I don't think it was a well-considered decision for sure. And me too.

I saw the story that came out the next morning, and that was the first I knew of it. Much less detailed. But I thought then that if I'd known he was going on Dr. Phil, I'd have been more worried about him than knowing he walked off.

I didn't realize they went ahead with the show. Yikes, that small bit was hard to watch.

It disturbs me because the show released a statement, after he said he walked off, that he had never even engaged with Dr. Phil. It almost sounded like they were claiming he only met with other people pre-production. But then of course they aired the damn thing, and that was not the case. Ugh.

Oh by the way, he made an indie move called "Coherence" last year or so. I just got it from Amazon but haven't seen it yet. It got good reviews.

As everyone has said, I hope he gets to the point where he can get sober and stay that way.

I saw that, about Coherence -- I should try to get a hold of it as well. I think he also appeared in an episode of one of the MTV shows -- maybe "Faking It"?

Definitely -- he'll always be someone for whom I have fervent hopes for, that he'll find contentment and peace.
